In Senegal, SenCirk is the first circus company, founded in 2010 by Modou Fata Touré. Today, it brings together around ten circus artists and educators from diverse backgrounds (breakdance, acrobatic gymnastics, traditional dance, etc.), who blend their specialties and Senegalese culture with that of contemporary circus. The spirit of SenCirk draws its strength from the originality of its circus practice—raw and without a safety net—marked by an unparalleled sense of freedom.
SenCirk creates, produces, and tours performances that are now presented worldwide, on prestigious stages, at international festivals, as well as in alternative venues. With each creation, the company reaffirms its commitment to promoting a bold, vibrant contemporary African circus that engages in dialogue with cultures across the globe.
In Dakar, the school founded in 2010 welcomes around fifteen young people (aged 18–25) in training. At its core are the values and benefits of circus arts, which it seeks to share and use as tools for social and professional integration. The association has supported many young people by training them in circus professions, preparing them for professional careers, and giving them the opportunity to grow, gain confidence, take responsibility, and aspire to a better future.
Finally, social circus workshops are also offered to people in situations of extreme vulnerability (talibé children, women victims of violence, prisoners, etc.), in collaboration with social sector partners in Dakar and its surrounding areas.
